While winter doesn’t officially arrive until December 21st, there is a definite chill in the air, with some parts of the country already having received snow. Winter 2015 is knocking on Mother Nature’s door. With temperatures quickly dropping, you don’t want to be caught in the cold, literally. Now is the time to be ready and well-prepared for the long and sometimes harsh season ahead.
The last thing you want on a cold day is for your heating system to fail. Were you having issues with your gas furnace running inefficiently last year? If so, and you haven’t already resolved the problem, it may be time for a gas furnace installation or, at the very least, having your system serviced.
Aren’t sure if your system needs repair? Here are some warning signs that your furnace is on its last leg.
Strange noises – All furnaces makes noises, but if you notice new sounds, like squeaks, squeals, pops or rattles, it might indicate that something has come loose or failed inside your furnace.
Smells – If you have a gas furnace and smell rotten eggs, you may have a gas leak. This must be resolved immediately! If you notice a more electrical smell, almost like metal or burning iron, it may be a problem with your motor.
Comfort – If you’re too hot or too cold, even when the thermostat is adjusted properly or you find your heat to be spotty, that’s an indication of an issue.
Age – 15-20 years is the expected life span. If you’ve surpassed that timeframe and you’re having heat issues, it’s probably time for a new gas furnace installation.
